Well if you are reading this, then you are one of the first few to visit allthingswhitetails.com. Welcome! My hope is to learn from many of you while sharing my experiences with hunting whitetails. By no means am I an expert or will I ever claim to be. My accomplishments are minimal with only a couple of trophies on the wall (no booners). I do not claim to be a professional hunter, but just love to hunt.
My viewpoints will always be straight forward and honest. Hopefully you will find links and information that will help you in your personal goals of hunting whitetails (under development). I ask that all of you posting comments use tact and common sense being mindful of others. Let’s begin.......
Of my 63 acres, I have just over 3 acres in plots. Many references call for a percentage of your total property to be in plots. Ed Spinazzola calls for 2-5% (Ultimate Deer Food Plots). Doing the quick math, I'm right at the 5% range. We have a main plot that is horse shoe shaped in the very center of our property, created in May 2008. I will regularly refer to this area as 1.) Main Plot South, and 2.) Main Plot North. We have another plot along the east edge that will be referred to as East Plot North and East Plot South.
Above is a picture of the East Plot planted in Arrow Seed Full Potential. This is a mixture of Robust Clover, Enhanced Alfalfa, Big Red Alfafa, and Ladino Clover. This is the first time I have tried this blend and will try to document the results. Given the fact I planted this in the spring, controlling weeds will be a challenge. Looks good so far. Please check back regularly for updates on what I am learning.
